Checking out Home Base
We had hoped to sleep the night before with the doors opened while listening to the sounds of the waves lapping ashore at our bayfront room, only the swarms of bugs had other ideas in mind. A spectacular sunrise and voices from the early islander crews below on the beach awakened us to the next day.
Following a quick breakfast, we were once again ready to explore the island. With beach gear in tow, we traveled to the next sites listed on the itinerary of our mission tour. First, some photos opps around St. Maarten, followed up with hours languishing on the French side beaches with local island specials in hand. Lunch was the next stop at Mr. Buzby’s at Dawn Beach, and of course, it wasn’t long before we located the border stop with happy hour at the Dinghy Dock from 5-7 daily where you can mix your own drinks for $2.00, in euros or dollars. Needless to say, we met some great new friends during a birthday celebration who had a place nearby on the French side at Orient Bay. A trip to the Caribbean isn’t complete without a lobster special, which was definitely on my personal checklist back on the Dutch side later that evening. We finished out the night of dinner and karaoke at Topper’s on Welfare Road in Simpson Bay.
